The automakers have to manufacture good-looking cars with an attractive interior, but they also have to develop new and better technologies. BMW will show up for the Geneva Motor Show with a special X5 – an environment-friendly SUV. The Vision EfficientDynamics Concept will be powered by a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel hybrid engine which is capable of producing 204 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque and with the help of a compact generator which supplies the power with another 20 HP and 154 lb-ft of torque.

The X5 Concept also features a eight-speed gearbox manufactured by ZF, a regenerative braking system, solar panels on the roof and 19-inch rims.

You can find out more from the press release and check out the gallery below.

PRESS RELEASE

BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept Revealed

Offering an insight into the future of BMW’s innovative EfficientDynamics technologies

The Geneva Motor Show (4 – 16 March) will mark the world premiere of the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics, a concept car designed to showcase the future direction of BMW’s performance enhancing and emissions lowering innovations. Mild ActiveHybrid technology is combined with a twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, a new eight-speed automatic gearbox and even roof-mounted solar panels, and all shrouded in a BMW X5 body.

All of these technologies combine to deliver the best fuel economy and lowest emissions of any large 4×4 currently on sale. The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics delivers 43.5mpg on the combined cycle and just 172g/km of CO2 emissions. However, these frugal figures do not translate into low performance figures. With its twin-turbocharged two-litre diesel engine delivering more than 100hp per litre, the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept completes the sprint from zero to 62mph in just 8.9 seconds, a time faster than most current production competitors.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine in the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics uses BMW’s Variable Twin Turbo concept, third-generation common-rail injection and an all aluminium crankcase to deliver 204hp and 400Nm of torque between 2,000 and 2,250rpm. The engine is supplemented by a mild hybrid concept that delivers a further 20hp and 210Nm of torque under acceleration. As a consequence, even though the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics features a relatively small capacity engine, it delivers nearly the same levels of horsepower as the conventional X5, but offers improvements in its already class-leading consumption and emissions figures.
The mild hybrid solution in the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics uses a compact generator that, for the first time, is flange mounted directly onto the gearbox. This motor produces up to 20hp of on-demand power. In addition, BMW’s now familiar Brake Energy Regeneration is used to efficiently capture energy that would previously have been lost when the engine is on overrun. Innovatively, the alternator is also integrated into the crankcase rather than conventionally driven from the front of the engine.

BMW’s concept uses highly efficient lithium-ion batteries in the boot area to store the power generated. These high-storage-capacity batteries enable optimum use of Brake Energy Regeneration. In addition, they create possibilities to power the air conditioning, electric coolant pump and the electric power steering system. For these functions, a 120 volt vehicle power system was designed and runs in parallel with the conventional 12 volt system.

The power harnessed by the batteries is also supplemented by roof mounted photovoltaic solar panels, measuring 1.0 metre square. The energy generated can either be used immediately or stored for later use. Importantly, the power created in this zero- CO2 way can be used to pre-heat the diesel fuel. The less efficient warm-up phase is thus shortened considerably.

This innovative and technologically advanced engine is directly mated to a new eight- speed automatic transmission. Developed jointly between BMW and ZF, the new gearbox delivers fast and efficient gear changes. With such a spread of gears, the car will always be in exactly the right ratio for the prevailing driving conditions. It also improves fuel consumption and minimises emissions.

The chassis and ride-height of the X5 have been adapted for the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics. This includes aerodynamically-efficient 19-inch light alloy wheels with reduced ventilation. The design of the spokes reduces wind resistance to the extent that, at 100mph, the car has to produce one horsepower less than a conventionally-wheeled car. This benefit has not been included in the fuel consumption calculations but, on the road, the impact is noticeable.

Hamann, a renowned German tuning company founded by Richard Hamann in 1986. They concentrate on cars like BMW, Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini, so their latest project is a BMW X5. The German Specialists named the project “Flash”.

Now, the SUV features new fender flares, roof spoiler, front and rear, and a special suspension as well as a new braking-system. Flash can be powered by either a 4.4-liter V8 which produces 368 HP or a 3.0sd which produces 320 HP. For both versions you will get a “powerful” exhaust which creates a sound beautiful enough to impress any audience.

The interior received special treatment, too – black-mat flooring, aluminum pedals and carbon fiber.

PRESS RELEASE:One of the most successful cars of its class is the BMW X5. BMW only recently introduced its latest successor and HAMANN has already put together a complete program for the new X5. Hardly any area has been left untouched. Whether it’s suspension, wheels, performance, interior or aerodynamics, the Laupheim German specialists provide clear individualisation launching far above the norm. Wide-body-parts arrange an especially brawny appearance, making the X5 become the HAMANN “Flash”.Quite flashily-dressedNew aerodynamic components are mandatory hence HAMANN begins with a new, wider front spoiler that lends the SAV X5 a significant powerful feature. In back HAMANN added a rear apron seizing the design of the front spoiler to match. Between front and rear, HAMANN adds fender extensions, which complete the wide body „Flash” looks. A further sporty accent shines through with the HAMANN roof spoiler, providing a stabilizing effect. It marks the icing on the cake of this extremely impressing “Flash”.With such a large vehicle, every miniscule of power counts. For this reason, HAMANN reprogrammed the series-produced Motronic. The X5 3.0si received subsequently a power boost to about 14 bhp/10kW and 25 Nm more torque. The X5 3.0d (stock power: 235 bhp/173 kW) is raised by the tuners to 265 bhp/ 195 kW and 600 Nm, the X5 3.0sd (stock power: 286 bhp/210 kW) to 320 bhp / 235 kW and 660 Nm. The 8-cylinder model 4.8i jumps by 18 bhp/ 13 kW for more power and torque increase as well. Not an easy choice!Pondering over wheel choices will require the majority of customers’ time. Here are four designs of choice for the “Flash” including PG3, Anniversary I and II as well as Edition Race. The noble tuners from Laupheim present a multi-pieced wheel PG3 available in silver finish with high-polished flange. It’s characterized through the sporty five-spoke design.
The one-pieced wheel Anniversary I portrays a light footing with its’ multi-spoke design. HAMANN supplies these in silver or black matt finish with INOX stainless steel lip flange. The multi-pieced light alloy wheel Anniversary II exhibits a multi-spoke design as well projecting a feeling of pure motor sports. The silver rims with high-polished flange reflects both nobility and luxury simultaneously. The appearance of the three-piece, ultra light forged wheels Edition Race in crossing spoke design and black wheel spider is identified through its’ nine main spokes double-attached, branching and continually double-crossing towards the outside rim. Its’ stirring design becomes particularly noticeable through Titan studs. The high-polished flange is icing on the cake to complete this luxurious look.

PG3 and Anniversary I are available through HAMANN for the X5 in 20 and 22-inch, Anniversary II in 22-inch and the wheel Edition Race comes in an impressive 23-inch. Naturally HAMANN offers the wheels in form of complete wheel sets.

By using a set of progressive suspension springs, HAMANN reduces the center of gravity for the X5. For those vehicles that have level regulation, it is lowered to about 40 mm in front, and for vehicles without level regulation or air suspension to about 40 mm in front and about 30 mm in back. Through this, the X5 receives a bit of agility back which, in contrast to its’ predecessor model, had suffered somewhat due to its bigger size.

The specifically developed HAMANN brake system for the front axle with slotted and ventilated brake discs sized 405×34 millimetres, aluminium disc chamber, sports brake linings and steelflex brake pipes. The six-piston fixed calliper disc brakes in silver complete the system and apply a powerful grip. At the rear axle an four-piston brake system with slotted and ventilated brake discs sized 345x28mm plus the same hardware as above support the system working at the front.

The growling thunder matching the name „Flash” is generated by a HAMANN-exhaust system. It consists of sports headers (gas engine), sports metal catalytic converters (gas engine) and a sports rear silencer. Last mentioned can be ordered either as 2-pipe (oval, 145mm in diameter) or as 4-pipe-variant (round, 76 mm diameter) made from stainless steel.

Interior modifications per request

Large vehicles such as the BMW X5 are tailor-made for travel. Due to this, HAMANN also modified the interior. Travellers should have the drive be as comfortable as possible and additionally should provide a feast for the eyes. HAMANN’s accessories such as an exclusive foot mat flooring in black, a foot pedal of aluminium or even an aluminium foot rest enhance the cockpit of the X5. Naturally HAMANN also modifies each BMW X5 for personalized customer requests. For example, extravagant leather decor is available in a variety of colours or an elaborate multimedia alterations including DVD, TV and Play station.

Two designers of the Alpine USA team remodeled a BMW 6 Convertible and they named it Dark Sinister Six. For the engine they have chosen a 4.8-liter V8 which produces 367 HP and it accelerates the car from 0 to 60 in 5.7 seconds. They worked very hard on designing both the exterior and the interior.

As you can see their work on restyling this car was not in vain. The 5-spoke black-colored rims were designed by the hot-rod manufacturer Boyd Coddington and have a width of 10-inches to 13-inches. The rims are dressed with Falken ZiEX S/TZ tires and the 360mm vented brake discs were produced by Brembo.

It’s a very interesting concept from the guys at Alpine and they managed to draw and built a very cool and attractive car. We hope that they will come and give shape to many other cars.
This engine produces 265 HP and 425 lb-ft torque and it’s supposed to be one of the most efficient and performing in its class. BMW also promotes their particulate filters and the urea injection system which they named it BluePerformance. These cars are very green, but we don’t know their prices although we hope to give more informations soon.

BMW announced at Detroit Auto Show that they start the production of the X6. The Bavarian company says that the car is a coupe-crossover combination. It has a nice interior but not very comfortable for those who are staying on the back-seat. For this model, BMW will use the new 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine which uses direct-injection. The engine produces 407 HP and 450 lb-ft torque between 1800 and 4500 RPM. They say that this engine is the most economical and efficient in its class.

They have chosen a six-speed automatic transmission, but the driver can also change gears manually. Also, the car features xDrive and Dynamic Performance Control which is a little different by regular stability control systems and it’s supposed to be better and to give drivers a special feeling.

We are used to get exceptional cars from BMW and this hatchback model is one of them. We wish them the best and to keep making better and better concepts. We think this car will be one of the best in SUV-class.

BMW released some information and pics of the M3 convertible contrary to their customs. We thought that they were very busy with the Detroit Auto Show and they were going to release some details at the Geneva Auto Show in March. The new model will be propelled by a 4.0-liter engine with 420 HP and 295 lb-ft torque which boots the car from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. Manual dual-clutch transmission, new suspension and high-performance brake system are some of the features. Being a convertible you probably want to know the opening time: 22 seconds. For now BMW just wants to show off their work but this might be a good strategy.
