Chrysler will unveil at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show the Jeep Renegade Concept. This concept is made out of aluminum so it doesn’t weigh to much. The Renegade is a parallel hybrid, powered by a 40-mile lithium-ion battery and a BLUETEC diesel engine. Jeep said that this concept will use one gallon for more than 110 miles. If this kind of lithium-ion battery packs will be more often used we’ll probably be witnesses to a fuel economy.

The Renegade’s windshield and its roll bar makes it look more sporty and the door openings keep the Jeep attitude. Because of the vertical headlights the concept has an aerodynamic look. You could see that Renegade is a Jeep trademark due to its design.

As we heard Chrysler has three concepts ready to be presented in January at the Detroit Auto Show and the Jeep Renegade is one of them.

Jeep has been making the Wrangler for 65 years. And in all this time, the car has been seen as top-choice in competition. And the venerable Wrangler, after all this time of two-doors models only, comes now with four doors.

Jeep’s 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has, because of it’s four doors, an extra 20.6 inches of total length. That may seen a lot, but still the 2004 Wrangler Unlimited had extra 15 inches and was still a two-door car. Market feedback has shown that by March Jeep has zero stock, meaning that the 2007 Wrangler Unlimited, finally in four doors, was much awaited by buyers.

The 2007 Wrangler Unlimited, in tests, came a little short of competition. Competitors like Land Rover, and most of all Toyota with it’s FJ Cruiser, topped the Wrangler at speed and handling. That is mostly because Jeep were a little too hasty in implementing an inline-six to V6 engine on the 2007 Wrangler Unlimited, with 205 hp and a meager 240 lb-ft of torque. Usually, more horsepower and torque would be suitable for a car of 4269 curb weight. On the track, it took the Wrangler Unlimited a long period to reach 60 mph: 9.31, the Toyota FJ Cruiser doing a better 8.16 seconds. Of course, on the other side, the 2007 Wrangler Unlimited isn’t meant to be a bullet-speed car with killer torque. It’s principle is simple : utility. It has heavy-handed stability, it need 138 feet to stop from 60 mph (which isn’t all that bad). The car is also much more quiet, with good gas mileage (18 mpg EPA combined) but the most of all it’s a four door SUV with lot’s of space.

Probably the best off-road of the year 2007, the Jeep foor-door Wrangler Unlimited cost about $26,735, in the States.

At the New York auto show, one of the “stars” was the new 2008 Jeep Liberty, re-engineered and with new style. “Drawing on our Jeep heritage, we selected cues that would give Liberty a more aggressive appearance,” said Frank Klegon, executive vice president for product development for the Chrysler group.

The 2008 Jeep Liberty ressembles a smaller Commnader.Changes from the old model are a tiny growth in length and width, extra space of 1,5 inches of legroom in the back, and more cargo space. The most interesting addition is the power-operated sliding roof, entitled Sky Slide, that is almost as wide as the roof of the vehicle, and can be opened from frond to back or from back to front. Now you can enjoy the sky while driving or even get a good tan, without getting out of the car.

All together, the 2008 Jeep Liberty made a good impression at the New York auto show, with a refined look and appealing aggressiveness, and also the modern features that include remote start, rain-sensing wipers and memory seats. Trying to win the race in the competition with the Dodge Nitro and other models, the 2008 Libery is sure to be on the choice list of buyers, from autumn when the sales begin…

The Gladiator concept looks like the military ones of the 1950s, but the Gladiator is the name of the 1960 Jeep Pickups. Jeep created the Gladiator from the Wrangles with a small extended cab and a seven foot cargo box. The wheel base is very long, at 138 inch. Jeep Gladiator has a 2.8 liter diesel engine under the hood and a four wheel drive. It’s a great offroad car.
