Volkswagen has just introduced their racing edition of the Scirocco GT24 at Wörther Lake for the world to see. Yet, this race car has been tested by the champions Carlos Sainz and Hans-Joachim Stuck. Volkswagen has also concentrated on their 16-valve injection engine with a turbocharger and an intercooler system, to maximize torque up to 340 Newton meters. It starts at 2,100 rpm, based on the dual clutch gearbox (DSG). An idea of an affordable dream car starts here, born in the heart of this Scirocco.

The success of this two-seat sport coupe has produced more than 360,000 Sciroccos. This car has been a favorite with buyers. I would advise people who like to race to buy this car for their enjoyment, see you on the track.

For the Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen brought the 2009 Scirocco and they wanted to show off with this model, so they displayed three examples consisting of a white one and the other two were red. Volkswagen introduced some nice features for the sportscar which you can read it in the press release after the jump and you should also check out the gallery below.

Press Release

Volkswagen in Geneva: international debut of the new Scirocco
Sporty and innovative – The Scirocco with adaptive chassis control and 7-speed DSG

Versatile and affordable – The legendary two-door makes its comeback
Wolfsburg / Geneva, 03 March 2008 – Volkswagen is putting on a spectacular parade of new models in Geneva with a host of international product debuts. Taking centre stage will be the highlight of the show, the new Scirocco – a completely re-engineered all-round sports car. Another vehicle being showcased at Lake Geneva is the Golf TDI Hybrid. This concept car runs on just 3.4 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres. The 150-PS Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel, also debuting in Geneva, represents a technology leap for automobiles run on natural gas. Other Volkswagen world premieres will be the extremely fuel-efficient Sharan BlueMotion (6.0 litres per 100 km) and the four-wheel-drive Golf Estate 4Motion. The Passat CC will also be on display for the first time ever in Europe.

It’s back: 34 years after the first Scirocco was unveiled to a waiting world at the Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen is presenting a new Scirocco for a new era at the same venue. Now as then, the coupé is inspired by the fascinating idea of creating a sports car for every day of the year at truly affordable prices. And that is the essence of the Scirocco: the successful marriage top technology and low running costs, dynamic performance and high comfort, a surprisingly spacious interior and an uncompromising sporty design.

As the Volkswagen Group’s Chairman of the Board of Management, Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, commented: “What we have done with the Scirocco is to put the kind of sports car in our showrooms that people have dreamed of owning. A dream that a good deal of motorists – in spite of all the high-end engineering we have integrated – can actually afford.” The Scirocco will be launched Europe-wide in late summer with prices in Germany starting at 21,750 euros; other countries will follow over the course of the next year.

With its Golf TDI Hybrid, Volkswagen demonstrates the potential inherent in the combination of a high-tech diesel engine, an electric motor and 7-speed DSG technology. On show for the first time in the world at the Geneva Motor Show, the concept car consumes no more than 3.4 litres of diesel fuel per 100 kilometres. The powerful full-hybrid Golf TDI Hybrid can be run either in internal-combustion mode only or in mixed operation – the powerful yet thrifty combination of TDI and electric motor. The car is also designed to run on emissions-free electric power only. Power transmission to the front axle is managed by a 7-speed DSG gearbox. In city traffic, the automatic stop-start system will even switch off the turbo-diesel when the vehicle is stationary.

The Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel being premiered in Geneva marks the beginning of a new era for natural-gas-fuelled automobiles. Until now, passenger cars powered by eco-friendly, low-consumption natural gas have tended to be “mild mannered”. The Passat changes that once and for all with its 110-kW / 150-PS TSI engine. And yet the direct-injection turbo engine in the Passat, specifically designed to run on natural gas, consumes no more than 5.2 kilograms of gas per 100 kilometres. The Passat and the Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel are due to be launched on the market around year-end.

Volkswagen is continuing its BlueMotion campaign in 2008. The latest model in the series is the Sharan BlueMotion on display for the first time at the Geneva show. With an extremely low average fuel consumption of 6.0 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres, the Sharan BlueMotion uses 0.7 of a litre less than the “conventional” model. By the same token, CO2 emissions are reduced from 177 g/km to 159 g/km. These are first-rate values for a seven-seater van with up to 2,610 litres of cargo volume and a permissible gross vehicle weight of 2,510 kilograms. This Volkswagen is driven by a 103-kW / 140-PS TDI engine complete with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The BlueMotion option is available in combination with the Trendline and Comfortline equipment packages. Deliveries of the vehicle are scheduled to commence this summer.

As of now, Volkswagen is offering the Golf Estate in a version with permanent four-wheel drive. This automobile is designed to enable as much as 100 percent of the engine torque to be transmitted to the rear wheels should extreme circumstances require. This gives the Golf Estate TDI 4Motion the best possible grip even in the most adverse conditions. The 4Motion system is coupled with a fuel-efficient, high-torque TDI engine that delivers 77 KW / 105 PS. The Golf Estate TDI 4Motion accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.9 seconds, has a top speed of 185 km/h and consumes just 6.0 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres. An attractive advantage for drivers with towing requirements is that the Golf Estate TDI 4Motion is permitted to tow as much as 1,500 kilograms on gradients of up to twelve per cent – that’s 100 kilograms more than its front-wheel-drive counterpart

Volkswagen came up with a more attractive design and the new front fascia and the smaller rear overhang. The interior also has been modified, now it’s more ergonomic and it features new panel instruments. You can choose between various engines, 1.8 TSI, 2.0 TSI, 3.6 FSI and 2.0 TDI. Another interesting feature is the Park Assist. We think the new version is better than the previous, and we hope that you will enjoy it.

Is the new Space Up! blue console an effect of the collaboration between Apple and VW? Probably, but all we know is that VolksWagen revealed it at the LA auto show and that it sports a 7 inch touchscreen display. All the functions are controlled by the console with a simple touch of the display, due to the proximity sensors that are used by the touchscreen. All the new VW models that will be produced in 2008 will feature a touchscreen monitor. This could be the result of the collaboration with apple.

The 2008 Volkswagen Touareg is a luxury sport-utility with a blend of refinement and off-highway capability. It eschews a third row of seats for five-passenger space. Protected by a rigid structure and full suite of airbags and electronic safety systems, Touareg 2 is a genuinely capable four-wheel-drive and comes in three levels: 3.6 VR6 FSI , V8 FSI and V10 TDI Twin Turbo.

The 3.6 VR6 comes with dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, cruise control, alloy wheels, fog lamps, trip computer, heated power mirrors, front and rear park assist, rain-sensing wipers, 10-speaker audio system. The 4.2 FSI adds a 350-hp V8 engine, leather upholstery, bi-xenon curve-following headlights, 19-inch wheels and more sporting suspension calibration, power passenger seat, driver memory system, power folding auto-dimming outside mirrors, rear seat side sunshades. The V10 TDI comes with the twin-turbo diesel engine, larger brakes and adjustable air suspension with continuous damping control.

Options include a tow hitch, a rear differential lock package, four-zone climate control, keyless operation, rear view camera.

>Safety equipment includes ESP-plus stability control, ABSPlus brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, tire-pressure monitors, hill descent assist. Electronic aids include updated antilock brakes that will form a chock in front of the tires on soft surfaces, meaning shorter stopping distances on mud, snow, sand, highway trails as the tires will absorb most of the impact. The six-speed automatic knows where the power lies and it quickly shifts to the appropriate gear.

The 112-inch wheelbase permits good occupant space and an overall length of less than 16 feet keeps the wheels near the corners. This creates a muscular stance and maintains the approach and departure angles and clearance necessary for real 4WD use.

Air suspension and the four-wheel-drive system are switched by rotary dials behind the shifter. The dominant tachometer and speedometer have flat faces with anti-reflective coating. The primary advantage of the air suspension is adjustable height, a 5.5-inch difference in six settings, four of which the driver controls. The suspension automatically lowers the Touareg one inch at 87 mph for better stability and aerodynamics, and another 0.4-inch when you reach 118 mph.

The 2008 Volkswagen Touareg 2 mixes trail-worthy ability and a feature-laden five-seat cabin into a compact package to find favor with outdoor adventurers. The array of engines and suspensions permit any buyer personality to design a Touareg they like, the better to appreciate everything you won’t notice in a short test-drive.

On May 19, at Woerthersee, Austria, there has been a meeting of Volkswagen fans all around the world. The team at VW has a surprise for participants, an extreme version of Golf GTI. As can be seen in the photo, this is no usual Golf, actually this is not at all an usual car, for that matter…

This being just a concept,VW design boss Klaus Bischoff said “Our target was clearly defined—despite the dramatic technical changes carried out underneath, we strived to retain a classic GTI appearance”. Still, a future series may be created, with certain elements from this concept Golf GTI.

Let’s take a look at stats. A a mid-mounted 12-cylinder engine powers this concept car, with a total of .. 650 hp! Torque is 553 lb-ft of torque, at 4500 rpm. From 0 to 62 mph an extraordinary 3.7 seconds! Now that is stunning, to say the very least. It can make fools out of most supercar producers. Rear-wheel drive is implemented, as obviusly needed for this kind of power, to achieved such performance. Martin Winterkorn, VK new leader, intends to push the limits to the max, and shake off the conservative image of the German car-maker. Even if no Golf supercar is bound to appear any time soon in show rooms, one can definitely expect surprises from VW from now on..

With a super look, this W12-650 Golf GTI concept is dressed in a steel and carbon fiber body shell, designed by Klaus Bischoff. C-pillars and reshaped rear windows allow more air to enter the body of the car, also the wheelbase has been shortened.

A daring concept for sure, this Golf GTI monster made a shock appearance at Woerthersee meeting, but only the future can say what will become of it…
